Transport
Especially in the London area. Here are some sources that I find particularly interesting
- London Reconnections A site about London Transport which aims to provide a bit of depth where sometimes it is lacking. "To cover topics that maybe haven’t got the level of attention yet that they may deserve. To layout and explain the facts when we know and understand them, and to provide a framework within which our excellent commentors can when we can’t. We also write to highlight some of the history and hidden areas of interest to be found in London’s transport infrastructure as well.".
- TFL Corporate Archive TfL Corporate Archives is responsible for safeguarding this corporate memory of Transport for London and its predecessor companies. The Archives collects and preserves both modern and historic records from the business and holds over 100,000 items dating from the 17th century to the present day.
- Railways Archive This archive has 4627 documents and 9049 accidents including many images which may be downloaded for private, non-commercial study.
- Historical Model Railway Society Archive This archive lists 50,0000 photos, 250,000 drawings and many copies of their Journal.
- London Transport Museum Archive collection This archive lists photos, drawings, maps, posters and ephemera
- National Railway Museum archives
- London Railway Atlas by Joe Brown, Ian Allan Publishing. A painstakingly executed detailed atlas showing the locations of Londons railways past and present, including dates and alternative names for stations. Could pore over this for hours.
